April 23, 2017 –
Congratulations to our own, Firefighter Mark Garced for being the 2017 recipient of Firefighter of the Year for the Long Branch Elks Lodge #742. Firefighter Mark Garced is a life-long resident of the City and a graduate of Long Branch High School. Mark joined the Long Branch Fire Department as an active volunteer member in January of 2003 and was hired as a full-time career firefighter on September 28, 2012. Firefighter Garced has served the city well and takes his career seriously. He is widely respected by his brother firefighters for his dedication to not only the job, but to the multiple charities he is involved with. While not on-duty Mark has spent years dedicating time to charitable causes as a member of several hockey teams. Mark is an accomplished hockey player. He has helped raise tens of thousands of dollars over the years playing with the FDNY Brooklyn Hockey Team, Keystone Coyotes Hockey Team (made up of Philadelphia Firefighters) and recently with the New Jersey State FMBA Hockey Team. These efforts have raised funds for Police officers and Firefighters injured or killed in the line of duty; Charities such as Alex’s Lemonade Stand, Where Angels Play Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Autism Research to name a few. Above all that, Mark is a dedicated husband and father to his wife Shelly and 3 children. Mark continues to live and work in his hometown and is a great example to not only his children, but to his brother firefighters and the City of Long Branch.
